Methodology
How the ranking is built
This site compares supplements. Below we describe exactly what decides the order of products, where we take the data from and what we deliberately do not do. Ranking positions are not for sale.
The main criterion: the cost of reaching your target
We do not compare package prices, because packages differ in the number of capsules and in ingredient content. We compare what it costs to reach the target you set yourself.
- You give the daily EPA and DHA target in milligrams. The site does not suggest a dose and does not hint at how much to take.
- For each product we calculate how many capsules a day are needed to reach that target — rounding up to a whole capsule.
- From that follows how much EPA and DHA you actually supply, what the excess over the target will be, how many days a package lasts and how many packages are needed for the chosen period.
- The cost of a day is the cost of the packages needed divided by the number of days. That is the value we sort by as default.
You can change the sorting criterion to the cost of 30 days, the number of capsules per day, the size of the excess, the amount of EPA or DHA, the package price, or how many days a package lasts. The chosen criterion is always visible in the form above the results.
What we do not do
- We do not sell ranking positions. The order comes purely from the calculation. There are no sponsored entries, no paid highlights and no hidden weighting in favour of selected brands.
- We do not dress up the results. When we know the recommended serving from the label, we compare the result with it and say plainly how many times your target exceeds it — for example “the manufacturer recommends 2 capsules a day, your target requires 14”. A product that exceeds the recommended serving more than twofold gets no highlight in the ranking, even if it comes out cheapest. For products where we have no recommended serving, we apply our own threshold: six capsules or 20 ml a day. That is our convention, not manufacturer data, and we mark it as such.
- We do not pretend that delivery is free. If we do not know the shipping cost, we write “delivery unknown”. We never count it as 0 zł. In a comparison with delivery included, such an offer takes no part at all.
- We do not judge quality. We award no stars, points or prizes. We show the numbers from the label and let you compare them.
- We do not give medical advice. The site does not replace advice from a doctor or dietitian and is not a source of recommendations on supplementation.
Where the data comes from
Each kind of data has a different source and a different role. We do not mix them.
- Composition: EPA, DHA, capsule count, form, TOTOX, testing
- Only the official product label or information from the manufacturer. These values are entered by hand by a person and they alone feed the calculator. For each of them we show on the product page where it comes from. We never take the composition from a shop description or from a shop product file.
- Price, availability, photo, link to the shop
- Product files (feeds) supplied by shops and affiliate networks. A feed can propose a product and update a price, but it publishes nothing on its own in the comparison.
- Converted values
- Sometimes a label states the mass of a compound rather than of the ingredient itself — creatine monohydrate instead of creatine, for example. We convert that only with a constant that does not depend on the product: 100 g of monohydrate is 87.9 g of creatine, 1 µg of vitamin D is 40 IU. Every such row is marked on the page, so you can see the number is not on the package. We never convert mineral salts into the element, because there the result depends on the form and the water of crystallisation — if the label does not state the element, the product does not enter the comparison.
- The URPL medicines register
- The Polish Register of Medicinal Products, licensed CC BY 4.0. We take only oral products available without a prescription, selected by ATC code rather than by ingredient name — which is why antacids do not end up in the magnesium category. We show them next to supplements because in a medicine the content is tested for every batch, while in a supplement it is declared by the producer. We do not sell medicines and we do not advise on taking them.
- GIS register
- The public register of food supplement notifications. We treat it as register information and as secondary evidence that a notification exists — not as an assessment of product quality. Presence in the register guarantees nothing and does not affect a position in the ranking.
A product enters the comparison only once a person has checked its EAN, read the label and entered the data together with the address of the source. Until that check is done, a product found in a feed stays unpublished.
Commercial cooperation
Suplometr uses shop partner programmes and affiliate networks. This means that in the future we may be paid for some of the click-throughs to a shop.
Commercial cooperation does not affect the order of products or the data shown. The same algorithm computes the ranking whether or not a given shop pays a commission. We take no payment for adding a product to the database, nor for changing a position in the results.
As of today the purchase buttons are switched off and the site sends no traffic to shops. When we switch them on, affiliate links will be marked.
Advertising and sponsored content
We may publish advertising in the future — a category sponsor banner, for example, or a single sponsored offer. The rules are set in advance, so there is no doubt where the comparison ends and the advertising begins.
What we do
- Every paid item is labelled with the word “Advertisement”. We do not use wording that blurs the difference, such as “promoted”, “featured” or “recommended”.
- An advertisement is visually separated from the results table — it has a different background and its own border. It never pretends to be a ranking row.
- A sponsored offer takes no part in the sorting and holds no place in the order. It is not “first” or “best” — it sits alongside.
What we never do
- We do not sell ranking positions. No sum of money will move a product higher.
- We do not sell changes to the data. We will not change, hide or “correct” a value from the label at a paying party's request.
- We do not remove products from the comparison at the request of a competitor or a sponsor.
- We take no payment for adding a product to the database. Adding is free and depends solely on whether we have reliable data from the label.
Every advertising contract contains a clause stating that the advertiser has no influence on the data or on the order of the results. If you ever see something that contradicts this — write to us, we will take it seriously.
At present we publish no advertising and no sponsored content.
Reporting an error
If any number does not match the label — write to info@suplometr.com. We correct the data from the label or from the manufacturer's information.
